Hello All!
I'm using this meme to get me back to blogging.
This is from http://thetruebookaddict.blogspot.com/ and she got it from Laura's Reviews. Laura wanted to see how well read she was in American Literature so she combined a few top 100 lists of books pulling out the American authors. How well read do you think you are?

I don't know that I'd necessarily read any of those I have not read to date. My to-be-read list is ridiculous as it is :), so I think I'll focus on those books for now. Have fun!
Happy Reading!

I've read 26 of these. I'm not sure I'd classify a couple of them into "American Lit", though. It's kind of like Elie Wiesel; I don't consider his work American Lit either - World Lit, yes. I didn't count WALDEN or LEAVES OF GRASS but I have read significant portions of those books, just never the whole things straight through. MYSTIC RIVER is actually the only Dennis Lehane I haven't read and that was because I saw the movie before I knew it was a book. So, I haven't been as anxious to read it because it usually ruins things for me.
Anyway, I would highly recommend FAHRENHEIT 451, especially since you work with the teens at your library. And I am also a HUGE fan of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST - but not the movie (*gasp)...likewise A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY. Phenomenal book. I like very little of John Irving's works but Owen is magnificient. The movie (Simon Birch), not so much!
And there are a handful on this list that I'd like to get to at some point before I die...THE COLOR PURPLE, which I started and have never gotten back to. The Vonnegut novel, CATCH-22. I'm sad, though, to see a few of the authors on here and not have a Pat Conroy on the list. I think he's one of America's greatest living writers. And he really illustrates the culture of the south, especially the southern male, well.
Very cute, Patti! This was fun!
Glad you did the list! I own most of the ones I haven't read so I guess I'll eventually get around to reading them! My to read list is ridiculously long as well! I'm now following your blog. Be sure to check out my latest book review on The Time Traveler's Wife.
